It’s disingenuous to expand to a 100 year horizon when the women’s team has only been playing for ~35 years.
It’s disingenuous to argue that the men’s team’s salary was zero.
I see the equality thing as part of a negotiation for the stars to get paid, the team to get the support it needs and for developing talent to get financial stability. This negotiation between the women’s team and the sports administrators has failed so we’re seeing it play out through legal action and media. I support the women’s team in this so I’m not going to give kneejerk reactions like “the pay gap should be bigger”
Nothing before the word “but” really counts in the mind of the person saying it, so I say “I don’t think they should be paid exactly the same $, but I think they should get more” rather than “I think they should get more but it’s not a gender issue”
Also YMMV but I’m pretty dedicated to my work, but there’s no way I would compare the level of my commitment to that of a professional athlete.
