The Argentine tells part one of the life story of Latin American revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevera (1928-1967). Benicio del Toro plays an Argentinean doctor who successfully led Fidel Castro's army in overthrowing Fulgencio Batista's regime. The biographical film will be based on Jon Lee Anderson's 1997 book Che Guevara: A Revolutionary Life. The author used personal diaries that were provided by Guevara's widow, as well as previously sealed documents from Cuba and Russia.
