The race is on to be the first to produce a spoof of the recent teen horror genre, like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. After the original box-office success of the early Kevin Williamson penned films, which singlehandedly revived the teen horror pic, the market has had quite a few in this genre. Since these films no longer seem original (Miramax announced that Scream 3 will be the last installment of the franchise), studios can still try to capitalize by satirizing the genre.
The previously titled Scream If You Know What I Did Last Helloween has been shortened to Scary Movie; ironically, this was Kevin Williamson's original title for Scream.
