I want you to know this is going to sting, and you're going to think I'm messing around - but my advice to you is absolutely sincere.
See, you started off with a bad combination. You are knowledgeable about some things, but you started posting with a lot of hubris. In fact, you attacked - and continue to criticize - a fund manager. This is a big deal here because our fund managers are volunteers. They don't get anything extra for it except a big commitment. We love them, because they make us free money. In fact, the fund manager you attacked took over a flailing fund – and while he will have a learning curve, we are amazingly grateful to him and rspect him immensely.
Your first couple weeks here have been unsettling to many long-term players. The thing about this community is they are generally very long term players/members here and have very, very long memories. For example, RotoHockey first came in and aggravated a lot of members. Over the years, he has proven himself to be a strong asset, is very helpful to new members, and posts great information – but he burned bridges so badly in the beginning there’s a whole group of people that fire back at every opportunity. In other words – he can’t overcome past mistakes in this community. But the thing is, he is an amazing player – one of the best in history here. He has a history of building portfolios OVER $1B within a year and no one argues his skill.
However, because of past transgressions, many people are unforgiving, but because of how seasoned his ports are and HSX doesn’t allow name changes, he is stuck with them – and with the opinions formed in the past.
Like I said, you have some good info that will benefit you as you play here. However, your port is tiny. I encourage you to abandon it and start another port while you can. Once you do that, take a firm 6 month hiatus from posting in the forums – but read *EVERYTHING*. After your self-induced hiatus from posting, you will have a better feel for how the community responds to postings, and also what is appropriate to post – as well as your tone. You will know the game.
Right now, the well is poisoned for you. Sure, there are a few people who will welcome you in – but frankly, most of them need you because they likely struggle with building their ports. More established and seasoned members will, frankly, ostracize you (I recognize there will be a few exceptions to this). I only say his because I see so much potential in you as a player and contributing member of the community – but you just don’t get “it” yet. For example, continually pumping Ex Machina is a problem. If that movie opens to $10M it will be HUGE for the distributer. Yet, the gains to be had are not equivalent to the amount of promotion you are pushing. As it gets closer to release, news, predictions, and forecasts will be available, and the price will align. Right now it’s just another stock blowing in the wind on a daily basis, so your promotion sticks out like a sore thumb.
This game is not about promoting passion projects - it's about making fake $$ as quickly as possible.
Seriously – take the mulligan while you can. I am not the most popular member here, but I am sincere, I don’t try to manipulate the market, and I sincerely try to be valuable and not piss people off. I respect almost everyone, understanding they all have their own playing styles, but at the same time, I have figured out who to listen to and who to ignore.
You could develop into an amazing player – you really can. Your insight is good, and you seem to understand the business side of entertainment to some extent (above the curve for a newbie, below the curve for a seasoned player). Start a new account, join Razorhawk’s school of HSX league, and absorb everything.
I’m not trying to be a jerk here – I’m trying to salvage you as a player.
Peace.
