I think that you, second gary (regarding the MMA point) and HarryWarden (regarding the release date) are all probably on to something. It might have also hurt that it was opening the same weekend as Contagion, which, while not in the same genre, might be interesting to the same demographics. I'm a non-MMA fan and I ended up seeing Warrior this weekend (with plans to see Contagion in a couple of weeks), but if I had had to choose between those two movies and I couldn't see the other one, I would have picked Contagion. It might have done better if it was opening in a week where the other two movies were like a family movie and a romantic comedy or something.
