three films each year at a theater:  Most of the movies released these days suck, aimed at dullards, the audience that makes Celebrity Apprentice and the Kardashians extremely useful for selling mobile telephone contracts, hair colorings, and Slim Jims.

Delta House likes movies, which is why I so rarely see new releases. A movie that would be better than a twentieth viewing of 12 Angry Men, Groundhog Day, The Godfather, or Animal House is rare among new releases.  Instead, we watch good films at home, enjoy several cable television programs, or watch sports and news.

[Disregarding subject or position, her writing -- if this is entirely her work -- is splendid.  I have edited the work of professionals twice and thrice her age (in journalism and law) whose writing had not reached this young lady's current level.  As writing deteriorates in general, the ability to inform and persuade with precision and elegance should become a point of greater distinction.

Some useful gifts for a developing writer would be an AP Style Book and a New York Times Manual -- not because her writing is substandard, but because she is among the rare teenagers likely to blossom with them.)

How the Entertainment Industry is Lacking Creativity...essay/speech by 14 year old girl. Rocket123 Feb 18, 16:30

Your daughter misses going to the movies. Come on Rocket, that's your cue. {nm} JMT-NL Feb 18, 16:50

I know, I feel terrible about it too. I drive by the theatre from time to time to see what is showing and just am not inspired. Rocket123 Feb 18, 20:28

Most impressive. Looking forward to her follow-up essay (tongue firmly in cheek). {nm} RotoHockeyYTD2012 Feb 18, 16:50

Barney Stinson's oldest rule: New is always better! {nm} Austinmh Feb 18, 17:06

She's 14 and she wrote this? Wow. (IM) Paul2k Feb 18, 17:08

I think you and your wife did a good job teaching her to think for herself, Rocket. That essay was extremely well-written. {nm} accountant_4_Jesus Feb 18, 17:23

We encourage free thought in my house. It's the only thing people can't control. What we think is ours alone. "Analytical" is in 'da genes. {nm} Rocket123 Feb 18, 20:43

Thanks for the sentiment. Rocket123 Feb 18, 20:38

Very impressive! Will you let us know how the speech/essay did , meaning what grade did she receive. You should be very proud! {nm} damenchipguy Feb 18, 17:40

She did a magnificent job. Loved the essay. Now she should write about how it sucks to pay over 10 dollars to see a movie MasterofPinball1983 Feb 18, 18:00

Can we get her box office analysis for next weekend? {nm} dsbman Feb 18, 18:15

Well written and great thoughts....but its an english essay eored Feb 18, 18:44

Sorry, it was a speech. My bad for terming it an essay. Rocket123 Feb 18, 20:16

Honestly eored Feb 18, 21:48

It is not offensive. Thank you for your honest opinion while keeping in mind we lived in the US (vs how it's done in the North) {nm} PVL admin Feb 18, 21:53

I want to thank everyone for their comments and support, even the less flowery ones. But there was a point to this: Rocket123 Feb 18, 20:26

Encourage her to see ARITY this weekend. Or plan a holiday around a film festival, and buy her a pass. second gary Feb 18, 20:33

Those are really good suggestions! Thanks! I especially love the film festival holiday idea. I am sure she would love it. {nm} Rocket123 Feb 18, 20:40

There's always books. Jane_Citizen Feb 18, 20:48

Oh, we have books. tons and tons of freaking books. Who gets to pack and move the boxes? Me, that's who! :) Rocket123 Feb 18, 20:51

I dunno, I saw a lot of good movies last year. Sure, more were at the art-house than the megaplex, but they were all more or less accessible {nm} dsbman Feb 18, 21:05

Really???? What an opinion.... VictorY Feb 18, 21:20

I agree with her (duh), but I am hopeful that some people in Hollywood can and will deliver. ndmaster Feb 18, 20:35

+1 {nm} Rocket123 Feb 18, 20:45

Sorry Rocket123. OlegMax does have a valid point. RotoHockeyYTD2012 Feb 18, 22:32

Solid piece for a 14 year old and I do regret vearing towards anything but complemetary when dealing with the work of a kid but... BionicMoron Feb 19, 06:35
