So many things wrong about this thread ;) First, dont get so worked up Facty! 2nd, tracking is dumb okay...

Posted by: islander (a.k.a del_USA_islander) on Nov 27, 06:27 in response to Facto's post Who is actually ready to believe, given all tracking so...

that LATimes article posted down aways that says girls prefer alvin to avatar 2 to 1? Well duuuuhhhh! Avatar is all about boys and young guys.

3rd: who says you need 4 quad appeal to pull in a good OW? How many quads did new moon appeal to?

4th: 2012 not a good comparison, thats more an older adult film, again avatar all about the guys under 25. Maybe 300 with its 70M Opening?

My conclusion: While historically these films are more about legs (Lord of the rings 1 only opened in the 40's if i remember), I think the visuals and 3d will provide enough excitement to draw

Who is actually ready to believe, given all tracking so far, that Avatar will open even better than 2012? Facto Nov 26, 21:34

especially with IMAX, i'd think a $50 million weekend is the floor, not the ceiling mickpix Nov 26, 22:22

Over the long haul, quite possibly, but before that we have halt and adjusts.... A 50M opening weekend should be doable, yes, I agree. {nm} Facto Nov 26, 22:48

been a believer since avatar day. {nm} adrenalin112 Nov 26, 22:36

I Am Legend's OW is in trouble . . . {nm} thatpj Nov 26, 22:40

Which was 77M, whereas 2012 opened to the tune of 65M. So, how will you argue for this supposed 4-quad appeal of Avatar? How will it happen? {nm} Facto Nov 27, 02:15

One Word. Twilight. Two words. New. Moon. {nm} thatpj Nov 27, 10:05

Nice rhythm, but I'm not sure what you mean. Yes, that movie you mention might still be going strong and cut into all around BO-business.. {nm} Facto Nov 27, 10:11

So, how that Mr. Fox long? {nm} thatpj Nov 27, 11:29

So you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about, can't back up anything and have to talk about something else? Facto Nov 27, 16:07

Wow... current price needs around H$71 opening... open message for math tribality Nov 27, 05:55

Bigger than 2012, anyway, and I'm not sure if anyone outside of the usual HSX sci-fi/nerd movies fanboy group believes in that? {nm} Facto Nov 27, 06:13

Avatar is all about boys and young guys? Then it would gross much less than Titanic. {nm} Peterlee Nov 27, 07:17

as far as I know EVERY movie ever has grossed less than Titanic :) islander Nov 27, 07:19

He's joking by taking your post literally :) The "It's about boys and young guys? I thought it was about aliens" nm RogerMore Nov 27, 07:27

doh! :D islander Nov 27, 07:39

I agree about legs, but not so much on 300 as relevant comparison. That movie appealed a *lot* to women also.. (GBUTL's six-pack etc.) Facto Nov 27, 08:12

Also, article neglected to mention the two films (Alvin and Sherlock) are established franchises and/or brandnames. thatpj Nov 27, 10:03

Avatar, you mean? Also, wrong thread (as far as the article is concerned.. ;-) {nm} Facto Nov 27, 10:13

It might appear so, looking at your posts. Hey, read the CoC lately, wiseguy? {nm} Facto Nov 27, 16:08
