You only see an unwatchable bad movie once before you start reading reviews...

If it wasn't newpaper columns, it was Siskel and Ebert's 2 thumbs up...people have looked and consumed movie reviews practically since there have been movies...and it only takes one "cold" horrific experience to decide to not get burned again...

Plus, I think reviews help people find movies and set their expectations for them.  Another movie (other than Doogal, my lesson finally learned movie) I watched "cold" that I hated and never watched again was The Nightmare Before Christmas.  I was young, with friends, didn't know it was Burton (and had only seen one Burton before anyway) and expected a Christmas movie.  When I got Halloween on screen, it was like my expectations were so blown, I couldn't watch it.  I have still to this day never rewatched it, but I think it's much better than I felt then and now, but my expectations destroyed it for me...

Angry fanboys are petitioning to have rotten tomatoes taken down because of negative suicide squad reviews. Moviesnob Aug 03, 08:24

On MovieTickets, advance sales for SuicideSquad are running a hefty 40% ahead of AUG recordholder GuardiansoftheGalaxy from 2yrs ago. tomcat90 Aug 03, 08:38

Maybe Russia could help them out? second gary Aug 03, 08:43

Unfortunately, being a critic these days and writing a review of a film opens you up to harassment though social media from these fanboys {nm} Moviesnob Aug 03, 08:50

For the record, I'm not one of these people. I was a part of the era that helped build "Rotten Tomatoes." I think we still need it. chosenone2oo5 Aug 03, 08:56

But the whole problem is whether you should even "know" about a film's quality before seeing it. Pre internet, you'd go see a movie cold. goodvibe61 Aug 03, 09:27

Absolutely. One time seeing "The Garbage Pail Kids Movie," and I literally never want to go into any movie cold again, ever. chosenone2oo5 Aug 03, 13:16

Pre internet you would see the reviews in the newspaper while looking up movie times or you would watch Siskel and Ebert. leo21 Aug 03, 18:53

At least some of the negative reviews are funny. {nm} lesana Aug 03, 09:11

Warner partially owns rt. They sold a chunk {nm} Moviesnob Aug 03, 09:21

The negative reviews won't diminish the box office on opening week-end. I rather think this discussion will help the movie on opening week-e {nm} BlackMamba1893 Aug 04, 02:43
