Is HSX trying to generate data both on OW and the initial four-week release period, and to do so before the release period begins?
I can see how HSX having both .OW and adjustless moviestocks might be a strategy for pursuing separate data strands. I can see, too, that in thinking about new release patterns, projections on how a film might do in two, three, four-week windows might have a role to play.
However, whether or not there is an adjust, under current release patterns the performance of a film on opening weekend is always going to be the dominant factor in projecting performance in the release window. Delist multipliers are predictable, or at least they are much, much more predictable than OWs. All to say I'm not sure that the elimination of the adjust does the work HSX might hope in getting release-window projections from the game before the opening weekend.
Since there is so much uninvested money sitting around in older accounts, perhaps a solution might be to create more stocks for each movie, say...
A traditional moviestock that halts and adjusts (say, BIRD4)
New release window stocks that do not halt and do not adjust, but are available before the release period begins, say, "BIRD4-2W," a BIRD4 stock that cashes out after the second weekend of wide release; "BIRD4-3W," a BIRD4 stock that cashes out after the third weekend of wide release; "BIRD4-4W" (and so on). These stocks don't halt and they don't adjust.
