If "Avengers: Infinity War" doesn't outgross "Black Panther," I'd hope the MCU doesn't shift focus (a la DC with "Wonder Woman").

"The Avengers" is the sole foundation to the entire MCU. All characters channel through that single property.

"Justice League" should've been DC's foundation, but then "Wonder Woman" was a hit, so they'd rather make every movie a "Wonder Woman" movie now. That's yet another way they ruined "Justice League."

"JL" should've been an easy, no-brainer win at the box office, as everyone would've attested before the film premiered. "Wonder Woman" should've been an asset, not a hindrance, just as "Black Panther" should be part of the team, or needs to disappear for the better of the entire cinematic universe.

Same box office theory goes for "Avengers: Infinity War," and here's why:

"The Avengers" audience + "Black Panther" audience - overlapping audience = "Avengers: Infinity War" box office.

That's the common sense math behind a cinematic universe, and why studios are desperate to replicate it.

"The Avengers" was already huge--and now that "Black Panther" has assimilated the remainder of the American black audience into MCU viewers, that should only serve to increase "Avengers: Infinity War's" audience size/ticket sales.

Here's the exceptions:

1. People who didn't like "Black Panther" after seeing it (drop from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" to "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is a good example)

2. "Avengers: Infinity War" sucks (the MCU audience is keen on stinkers, and will move on)

3. "Black Panther's" success is a tide that doesn't raise other boats (remember "A Wrinkle in Time?" No?)

4. "Deadpool 2" undermines "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Black Panther" geeky overlapping audiences (wedged between "X-Men: First Class" and "Captain America: The First Avenger" in the summer of 2011, "Green Lantern" didn't fare so well)

Ultimately, it's paramount that "The Avengers" remains the flagship franchise of the MCU, and that should only serve to benefit the box office of all franchises involved.

Remember, after "The Avengers," each solo franchise got a post-"Avengers" box office bump. "Iron Man 3," "Thor: The Dark World," and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" all did better because they became Avengers...but also, "The Avengers" did better than it would've without Iron Man, the MCU's previous golden boy.

But I personally don't believe "Black Panther 2" will gross the same $650M+ that "Black Panther" did. Those are different variables--"Black Panther" is a zeitgeist-hype bubble event film, not unlike "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "The Avengers," or "The Dark Knight"--all of whom's sequels could not match that hype. The hype bubble had burst. "Black Panther" (and "Wonder Woman," as well--MAYBE even "Deadpool 2") are headed for the exact same fate, no matter how many people may love those movies right now.

So here's to "Avengers: Infinity War," and hoping it will break all kinds of box office records when it arrives at long last.

tl;dr. Make no mistake, Black Panther will be the leader (replacing Stark/Iron Man) in Phase 3 or where ever Marvel is at after Avengers 4. {nm} -JPV- Mar 25, 13:30

My point exactly. That worked out so well for Wonder Woman. (NOT) {nm} chosenone2oo5 Mar 25, 13:34

No idea what you mean. Problem with JLEAG wasn't Wonder Woman. {nm} -JPV- Mar 25, 13:37

IMO, the studio knew they had a mess, tried to fix it bringing in Whedon, which didn't work, and came the point where they cut their losse -JPV- Mar 25, 13:38

They probably would've canceled it but they (the execs) pushed on with a Warner/AT&T merger on the horizon. {nm} -JPV- Mar 25, 13:40

Spending 300M on JL and having that mess is embarrassing. WB left 1B on the table by not understand DC {nm} Baron_Darcon2017 Mar 25, 17:38

It wasn't a lack of understanding DC, it was rushed so the execs could get their bonuses before a merger went through -JPV- Mar 25, 18:07

And that's not to mention mandating a 2 hr running time by the WB head, likely to get as many showtimes as they could. {nm} -JPV- Mar 25, 18:08

Last one, but didn't help that THOR3 got great reviews so that certainly took oxygen out of the box office. Even THOR3 made like $21.7M -JPV- Mar 25, 18:10

Dr Strange made more money than Justice League (unknown Marvel hero beats DC's top four heroes) {nm} RazorHawk Mar 25, 18:43

And from a technical standpoint, Dr. Strange was better. It also, along with THOR3 doing a lot better, bad press (mostly deserved). -JPV- Mar 25, 18:46

Warner Bros has a history of failure with DC movies... because they do not understand the characters and do not have a plan... RazorHawk Mar 25, 19:26

Whereas Dr. Strange did get the benefit of having the Marvel label. Anyway, I'm done. I just don't care enough about JLEAG at this point. -JPV- Mar 25, 18:49

Did The Avengers cartoon give it away?... RazorHawk Mar 25, 14:05

Seems logical. {nm} -JPV- Mar 25, 15:00

Good. I love seeing the tears of white men as they realize not everything is for them. {nm} Bronzey Mar 25, 15:11

I'm white and don't mind him being the leader *shrug* {nm} -JPV- Mar 25, 15:20

And I thought movies were for entertainment. So they're actually a competition between the races? {nm} PhoneHome Mar 25, 17:20

Nice 2 white jewush men could give blacks a fictional history to be proud of, especially since the real ones are testament to corruption {nm} Baron_Darcon2017 Mar 25, 17:45

i can't tell whether this one s anti-semitic or just the usual racist crap you post {nm} slipping jimmy Mar 25, 18:19

its just horribly racist {nm} Moviesnob Mar 25, 18:25

As my mom would have said, "that's just plain stupidity" {nm} Bronzey Mar 25, 18:39

What's incorrect? Stan Lee and Jack Kirby 2 white jewish men created BP. The movie BP and Wakanda are much different than Baron_Darcon2017 Mar 25, 20:55

What's incorrect? You equate the pride in an African-American talent driven film doing extremely well to the point of extreme excellence Catzan Mar 26, 00:48

Without Lee and Kirby creating BP the movie NEVER would have happened. Mathematics and science started in northern Africa not sub-saharan... Baron_Darcon2017 Mar 26, 05:08

If you're expecting accurate history from Super Hero movies - you need to quit watching them. {nm} JDolphin Mar 26, 18:49

If you're expecting the Super Hero movies to follow exactly (or even close sometines) the movies - then you need to quit watching them {nm} JDolphin Mar 26, 18:50

oops - follow the comic books {nm} JDolphin Mar 26, 18:51

BP will fall short of adjusted Avengers 705M, probably around 690M. {nm} Baron_Darcon2017 Mar 25, 16:24
