but I know those aren't necessarily your forte.

I was at American Animals a couple weeks back on a late Thursday night.  there were about 20 of us in the crowd and I was in a group of 4.

there were 2 in a row in front of us and 3 in a row in front of them.  the group of 3 were in their mid 40s-early 50s.  the guy in the center kept opening his tablet sized phone and shining a huge white light in the row behind him and our rows faces.

he actually was typing texts and emails.  keep in mind it's 11pm at this time!  one in my group could not take it anymore and bent down over the row in front of us to whisper-yell "TURN OFF YOIR PHONE!"

he about nearly dropped his phone trying to put it away.

here's the thing, why was he at the movie to begin with?  I don't want to miss one second of a film and this guy thinks it's okay to carry on conversations during these scenes?  and this was a great movie!

why come to begin with?  do you really not know you're ruining the film for others?  the lack of respect will cause me to be come vexatious quite often.  don't get me started on people consistently kicking my chair throughout the entire film.

lastly, I also agree with Matt that Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday are the best days to see a film.  I go mid-day, but mainly late evenings.  those are always the best, quiet crowds with very few people under the age of 30.

To this point I have zero interest in "premium" experience exhibition. What am I missing exactly? I'll tell you what I cherish most... Goodvibe61 Jul 15, 18:22

Nice rant! I used to go to the movies twice a week until earlier this decade. Now I barely go to the movies anymore. FabioParme Jul 15, 18:38

i grew up in a small town with basically two theaters (one AMC sixplex and a regional 3-screen shoebox). all i miss are the great movies slipping jimmy Jul 15, 18:50

Every generation is defined by the inventions they grow up with. The internet and cell phones present challenges that no one thought would Catzan Jul 15, 19:38

Do you have an Alamo Drafthouse near you? Only place that really enforces quiet and no cell phones {nm} bennyg1985 Jul 15, 19:50

I'm 45 minutes from downtown L.A., so hopefully by the end of the year I can have the pleasure of experiencing the Alamo. {nm} Goodvibe61 Jul 15, 21:33

I'm with you 95% of the time. I've found it easy to get good quiet showtimes, although that may be in large part the area I live in MattW Jul 15, 20:51

The best theater experience I've had in 2018 for a new film was A Quiet Place. The audience went with it and respected it and it was awesome {nm} Goodvibe61 Jul 15, 21:03

And at the Jack White concert I went to a few months ago, they secured all devices in the lobby. No devices allowed in the theater. Goodvibe61 Jul 15, 21:08

In what part of the country do you live? Frequent movie-goer. I never see a cell phone past previews, teens included. {nm} PhoneHome Jul 16, 04:41

The elderly are a much bigger problem than kids IMO. {nm} skunkrunner Jul 16, 07:14

thankfully I haven't had any bad experiences with cell phone users, etc....dunno if it's because I'm in the SoCal suburbs {nm} tealfan Jul 16, 08:46

Take a flashlight with you and any time someone uses their cell phone or chats loudly shine it on them. DTravel Jul 16, 10:13
