Movies

That's really a Holiday Pick 5 though, to cover the movies that make money over Thanksgiving and the Christmas-New Year period.

Posted by: RogerMore on Mar 14, 07:41 in response to tealfan's post I can't remember, but wasn't everyone okay with Winter...

The issue isn't that it's including the "wrong" movies, it could just have a different name.Ā

Personally I'm fine with the early start. Even if they opened the last week in April, having a summer movie challenge without AVNG3 or AVNG4 is like going to a steakhouse and ordering the salad. Like it or not, these days the summer movie season begins when Disney says it begins.

Plus I think it would be needlessly confusing. Say the eligibility period is May 1, highlight in bold that AVNG4 is not eligible and you'll still get a bunch of people who will pick AVNG4, who have to be reminded and asked to pick again, who'll complain that they don't get to pick it, who won't make a replacement choice before the deadline and will complain about that, etc. (Maybe you could get around this by taking entries from after AVNG4 has opened and accepting entries up until the week PIKAC opens)

It should be moot next year - Disney is going back to the first weekend of May for the first Marvel release and hopefully it will stay that way.

Summer Pick ?? Poll...first off, I'm making an exception again and including AVNG4...so should it be a Pick 5 or Pick 7? {nm} tealfan Mar 13, 14:50

7 {nm} gogreen Mar 13, 14:52

7 {nm} bennyg1985 Mar 13, 14:54

Although I am not positive that AVNG4 will be #1 this year...but I still like 7 {nm} bennyg1985 Mar 13, 14:55

Go big or go home.... {nm} tatoufan Mar 13, 14:58

5 {nm} DeanB Mar 13, 15:01

7 {nm} TFeeney Mar 13, 15:04

7 {nm} sphere Mar 13, 15:06

10... give every movie a chance like the BP noms for the AAMPAs {nm} holdercc Mar 13, 15:28

7 {nm} numbersix_99 Mar 13, 15:30

7 {nm} daveart Mar 13, 15:39

Great question. I'd go 7 to open it up {nm} VictorY Mar 13, 15:40

7 please {nm} MattW Mar 13, 15:54

I think 7. No one knows anything but the choices for top 5 are the five $300M+ films with maybe two possible spoilers. RogerMore Mar 13, 15:55

007 {nm} joeoftexas Mar 13, 16:04

7 - More differentiation in the scoring {nm} PhoneHome Mar 13, 16:07

looks like the 7's have it...I don't want to stray too much from my original intention of "easy to play, difficult to master" :) {nm} tealfan Mar 13, 17:18

April is still not the movie summer season so zero {nm} Moviesnob Mar 13, 17:37

Climate change, bud. {nm} doitdoitdoitnow Mar 13, 17:46

The release slate is flat then {nm} Moviesnob Mar 13, 17:55

I can't remember, but wasn't everyone okay with Winter Pick 5 starting in November?...and if you're worried that... tealfan Mar 13, 22:41

The Holiday/Winter always started First week of Nov. Moving to April for Summer would be the same as moving Winter to include Halloween. {nm} Antibody Mar 14, 09:47

What “always”??? There’s been two winter pickems. I wasn’t sure I wanted to do it next year, but now I do just to come up with some bat**** islndr Mar 14, 09:56

I meant the Hollywood definition of the Holiday/Winter blockbuster releases. {nm} Antibody Mar 14, 10:04

Bipartisanship > polarization. 6. {nm} SenJohnBlutarsky Mar 14, 00:01

BTW since you're including AVNG4 from a week before May, why not include IT2 from a week after August? {nm} DeanB Mar 14, 04:24

When would the contest end then? {nm} fourstars Mar 14, 08:52

Hmm. Didn't think about waiting for IT2 to finish its run... Never mind then :) {nm} DeanB Mar 14, 08:58

I'm drawing the line at AVNG4 or I'm taking my ball and going home...lol {nm} tealfan Mar 14, 09:00

I support whatever you think, you created it. I am terribly disappointed in these otherwise rational people being so pedantic on the name :( {nm} islndr Mar 14, 09:48
