In context, Clooney supports message but not method. Cruise is an ass here. Why still filming rn, during peak COVID? Put crew on paid leave.

All that these crew members did was fail to social distance. Bit of a mistake? Yes. Worth facing a tantrum over it? Hell no.
This is a busy set. Mistakes will happen, and people will break distancing rules. If crew members legit can't be within a few feet of each other right now, they shouldn't be filming. And, considering current virus rates, they probably shouldn't be. Take off a month, keep paying the crew to keep their "food on the table", and come back when the virus has calmed down.
As a cherry on top, Cruise has put the crew on an early Christmas break, and will be flying off to Miami in his private jet. No word on whether the crew gets paid for the lost work days...
Also, for a guy so obsessed with following guidelines to the letter, his expensive mask breaks CDC guidelines. It filters outside air, but blocks none of his own breathing.
I'll close my rant off with what Clooney had to say:
"I wouldn't have done it that big. I wouldn't have, you know, pulled people out," Clooney said. "You're in a position of power and it's tricky, right? You do have a responsibility for everybody else and he's absolutely right about that. And, you know, if the production goes down, a lot of people lose their jobs. People have to understand that and have to be responsible. It's just not my style to, you know, to take everybody to task that way."
