People overwhelmingly went long on TMNT for eg not because they mistakenly calculated that Fri-Sun BO would be 35.9m knowing there's a Teus/Wed preview. They just together estimated a extended OW total ~36m. Not considering there might be 2 days that wont get rolled into the weekend as taken for OW derivatives purposes. Even otherwise one cant tell if Studio will include it in Friday or not. This only occurs with a few movies which choose to release on Teus instead of Thurs.
I just suggested the right thing to do would be to just take everything up to 1st Sunday (or Monday if holiday weekend) into OW derivative calculations regardless of when the movie released. The Teus/Wed nos are anyway basically a cut from the weekend (people who want to see it as the movie opens, not wait). Sometimes when OW derivates are IPO'd here, some of these additional shows may not even be announced yet. The only way to simplify is to consider week leading up to 1st Sun for OW derivatives.
Its a suggestion, decision is in experienced hands. But we'll keep seeing this happen as studios will experiment increasingly with release schedule to maximise biz & so we'll keep seeing this happen here from time to time.

Well, it's only Friday through Sunday so if studio puts previews into Friday, it's counted. Weds and Thurs are not. Aug 05, 10:19
