Got a note in the mail from the Village. They have to change out my water meter. They just replaced it during the reclaimation of barrie park. Yeah. There was this mess that needed to be cleaned up. It took 6-7 years, but they eventually removed all the buried tanks and leeching benzine and coal tar. So when the dust was settled, many residents were paid off and their properties were cleaned up. In the park, they had to dig 40 feet down to remove said tanks. It was an x-file scene with contamination suits, and special air monitors even 10-12 feet along the border fence.
Anyways, when they dug up my yard, they replaced water pipes and the meter. Now they need to replace the meter with an efficient one with more accurte readings. It's digital and communicates on it's own.
My issue is since this meter was available when they replaced the old on with a newer one, why didn;t they replace it with the one they're going to be installing Monday. The notice came with a threat. Either have the meter replaced within 10 days or pay a 150.00 fine. last time they didn;t ground the meter and put my family in danger. I ended up grounding the meter when the government or contractor was done. Now, though I can drain most of the water in the pipes by opening the faucet in the utility sink, there will still be a good 38 feet of water pipes that won't drain through gravity and it's all going into my room.
At settlement, I signed papers that gave me express permission to complain about future damages incurred where the damage was caused by the reclaimation project. This is one of those items. Should they fail to ground the new meter, I've shooting pictures and getting them and my complaint on the radio.
How can the water department not ground the meter when building codes require the grounding?
Argh!
