Point 1: Romney Lied

Posted by: websch01ar on Oct 11, 08:39 in response to websch01ar's post I am happy to dispute point by point, but are you going...

Mr. Ebert's blogpost is supported by a single quote from the New Yorker by Hendrik Hertzberg:

"By the end of ninety minutes, Romney had retrofitted himself as the defender of Medicare, the advocate of Wall Street regulation, the scourge of the big banks, the enemy of tax cuts for the rich, and the champion of tax relief for the middle class. All these claims are spectacularly false."

It is difficult to argue against someone's opinion here.  There is no proofs to back up the assertions.  However, Romney indicated that the Affordable Care Act calls for a reduction in funding of some $716 billion mostly attributable to reducing the payments to doctors.  The Obama administration indicates that the cost and service to Medicare recipeients will not be touched.  This is a logical stretch as it does not account for doctors and medical providers dropping out of the Medicare program.  This patients will be moved around and not get the service they deserve.

It is not a lie to state, as Romney does, that Medicare was cut by Obama.  Moreover, the Romney and Ryan plans (dictinct plans remember) call for changes to Medicare for future recipients.  Like me.  Those who are currently receiving benefits would not have any changes to their plans.  Please note Ebert does not go into the distinctions.  Rather, he continues the talking points from the left.

Romney stated that he is a supporter of wise regulations, but that the Obama administration has overly taxed business with a load of new regulations.  Even before the ACA became law, the Obama administration had already made/changed more regulations than Bush did in eight years.  I would recommend the site www.reginfo,gov for more information.

Romney believes in encouraging economic progress by empowering those individuals who will risk their capital and begin new businesses.  Over 70% of all citizens are employed by small businesses who largely report their business income as personal income.  The evil millionaires who make over $250,000....seems like a math problem to me.

Anyway, Romney has expressed interest in a number of plans like the flat tax and even listened to Fair Tax proponents (I am one).  This is a fundamental divide between fiscal conservatives and those who are more progressive.  Now before I am lamblasted as a hater of the lower classes, please keep in mind I support the Fair tax which is the most progressive of any tax platforms on the table.
