Doesn't say the father was not targeted. Could be a coincidence. Maybe there as not a specific motive, or maybe there was.
As far as church bombings, abortion clinic bombings, etc, there are always going to be unlawful individuals that take matters into their own hands, violate laws, commit crimes, etc. Doesn't make them right, nor does it mean they are representing mainstream America. Isolated cases do not necessarily reflect upon American citizens as a whole.
As for giving up liberty in the name of "security", that is already established. Your liberty ends where my nose begins. It's the theory that freedom of expression doesn’t mean we are free to run into a crowded movie theater and shout “fire”. Obviously others can be severely injured in the stampede to get out of the theater as quickly as possible. Our liberty is partially limited for the safety and security of others. Everyone has to give up a portion of their liberty to be able to coexist well with others.
I still like the message of the "Animal Farm". If we ever fall to a form of government that takes life in the name of liberty or freedom, we are just a lost people. Not specifically trying to make a pro-life speech there, but hopefully the overall message is not lost regardless.
Being pulled over for probable cause is not life threatening, its an inconvenience. No one should ever condone being pulled over without probable cause. If an officer gives someone a reason, good or bad, for being pulled over, it's still probably cause. No, DWB is not a reason.
Calling police, "pigs" to use the Animal Farm analogy again, is to say they are the oppressors when actually their job is ensure that one persons liberty does not infringe upon anyone else's. The mission is not necessarily to determine where that line should be drawn, (that is for law makers), but rather to enforce the laws already established until revoked or amended. The term "peace" officer is paramount to their task. They are simply to detain and transport to a higher authority where judges and lawyers argue whose liberty was violated and to what degree. Various established punishment guidelines are applied, and peaceful life and liberty resume.
Missouri law may not be for everyone. Same could be said for California, but local people have the right to form ordinance laws that are not contrary to or in opposition to Federal or Constitutional law if they deem a "safety" concern a greater priority than a "liberty" concern. You may disagree, but that does not make it wrong.
I would still rather live in the worst state in America, then anywhere else in the world under Sharia law, but to each his own.
