I am a product of my knowledge and training. I cannot be held accountable for the things I don't know. It is frustrating to new players to learn things through humiliation (read senior players' rants/yells/smacks). If there are widely accepted traditions, they should be laid out in full view for all. If there is not, then older players should not be allowed to reminisce about how HSX is this or that, and hold newer players accountable.
Additionally, I find that OLDER players display a sense of entitlement FAR more than newer players who tend to be uninformed or cautious. I would like to see something published so that all can paint with the same broad brush.
If we don't want to go that route, which is fine IMHO, then there are NO traditions holding us back from advancement, and all players in "free for all" manner would be able to ignore senior players' direction to behave in a certain way. CASE AND POINT: gut checks. I can think of other examples, but don't want to point fingers or throw mud, as this is not my intent in the first place...i would just like to know what my responsibilities are and the gaming rules I can expect ALL players to abide by, not just the new ones because older players like to be the party whip.
I love the game, and enjoy the banter/advice in the forums, but am more inclined to push back when barked at for an unknowing mis-step if no one is going to take the initiative to publish existing "protocols".
Lack of communication breeds miscommunication and the lack of dissemination of information is not leadership in place of guidance. New players need guidance but don't know what questions to ask.
Rant and justification complete.
