Walt Disney has revealed the teaser trailer the the fifth chapter in the fantasy franchise Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales [PIRT5].  Brenton Thwaites [BTHWA] stars as a young sailor who encounters the ghastly ghost pirate Salazar, played by Javier Bardem [JBARD], who is looking for our infamous hero Jack Sparrow.  Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales returns to theaters on May 26th.

There were no surprises this weekend as all the new releases pretty much performed as expected.   Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children [PRGRN] led the box office with an estimated $28.5 million.  The fantasy drew an audience that was 59% female and 55% under the age of 25.

Deepwater Horizon [DPWTH] debuted in second place with $20.6 million.  The disaster film was well-received by critics and moviegoers alike and could have good legs.

September closes out with a pair of special effects-laden films targeted at different demographics. Fox goes after the younger crowd with the fantasy Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children [PRGRN]. Warner Bros. has uploaded the final, full-length trailer for the fantasy Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them [FBSTS], set in the same magical universe as the Harry Potter films.  Eddie Redmayne [EREDM] stars as Newt Scamander, an English magizoologist whose suitcase full of magical creatures are unleashed in New York City during the 1920s.  Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them arrives in theaters on November 18th.

Paramount has released the teaser trailer for the drama Fences [FENCE] adapted from the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play by August Wilson. Denzel Washington [DWASH] directed and starred with Viola Davis [VDAVI], Jovan Adepo, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Russell Hornsby, Mykelti Williamson, and Saniyya Sydney.  Fences opens wide on Christmas Day.

Two new wide releases both opened below expectations as The Magnificent Seven [MAGN7] topped the weekend box office with an estimated $35.0 million.  The western remake drew an audience that was 56% male and 67% over the age of 25. 

Storks [STORK] debuted in second place with $21.8 million.  The animated film skewed towards families with young childen.

After two weeks at the top, Sully [SULLY] landed in third with $13.8 million.  The drama has banked $92.4 million.
