The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that there will be 10 nominees for Best Picture at the 82nd Academy Awards. The last time that happened was 65 years ago in 1943 when 'Casablanca' beat out nine other contenders for the Oscar. By widening the field to 10, the Academy gets to recognize and promote more films. The snub of such popular mainstream films as 'The Dark Knight' and 'WALL-E' last year often cast the Academy as out of touch with the general movie-going...
As first scooped by TV Guide last week, Variety reported "Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams have agreed to co-produce the sequel, which is aimed at a 2011 release."
Viacom chief Summer Redstone had blamed Cruise [TCRUI] for the under-performance of Mission: Impossible III at the box office, and fired him from ever working with Paramount. Apparently they have patched things up, and the Impossible is possible again.
