Sure...we might be 'guessing' with regards to how much a movie will make on opening weekend, but that is the crux of HSX's patented software. They sell this 'data' to the studios and others which shows an interest in a film, the demand, etc.
As far as the price of a stock, once the IPO hits, then it's market forces that drive the price up or down. Yes, in a way - we are all really 'guessing' at how a movie's stock price is valued based on our likes, dislikes, rumors, etc. Only when the movie actually opens, is the value determined by how much the movie made that weekend.
But yes, we all are 'guessing' as to the value of a stock - and HSX uses these guesses to sell the data to studios, etc. Their patented software then translates demand for the movie stock (or other security) and determines how much the price goes up or down. This is a secret that HSX is not telling us how the system determines that value, but for all of us - in a way...yes, we are guessing on the value of a movie stock UNTIL it actually opens - and then it's actual value is determined by how many people actually see the movie.
Once HSX adjusts the stock after opening weekend, then again, it's market forces that determine the value once again - although NOW players may have an idea of where the movie's stock will delist at 4 weeks later - thus determining the stock's value as well.
