So Who Saw What Last Week? (me - Moneyball: B+, MI4 Ghost Protocol (IMAX): B+, TinTin (IMAX 3D): B-, Real Steel: B-)
Moneyball: Really liked it, but something was missing for me to love it. Perhaps it moved too fast, could have spent more time with the players maybe.
MI4: Not a movie, just a string of over the top action sequences. But, Brad Bird does take time to set many of them up properly. For me an action scene needs to have buildup in terms of tension and emotional impact. Then it has to truly deliver a visceral reaction, with an outcome that feels uncertain. This happens here a lot. Actual excitement as opposed to just dumb noise ala MBay. Nyqvist as a villian didnt offer much, that and total lack of any reasonable plot keeps this from being great.
TinTin: Not a movie, just a string of over the top action sequences. :) The mystery kicks off immediately and we are given no story as to who TinTin is. Here, as opposed to MI4, the action is dumb noise, just insanely over the top, no time to breath. I liked the visuals alot, but Speilberg never gives you a chance to appreciate it. The mocap type characters were pretty good, tho the proportions and blinking werent quite right. I would take a sequel from PJack, hopefully with more engaging story. ps Imax 3d added nothing for me.
Real Steel: Amazing how standard Hollywood formula and a likeable cast can make something so terrible into a quite watchable piece of fluff. But please no sequel!
