Basically every transaction affects the price of the stock traded. What the software here does is calculate how much your trade will change the price and then applies that change before the transaction is carried out. A little bit of a time warp where the effect comes before the cause.
That's why your buys go thru at a different price than what it was when you submitted the order.

You can still buy at .01 (sometimes) but you have to buy in small chunks, 25,000 shares max and spaced over 5-10 min {nm} Aug 22, 14:34
