Take a look at the reports at the bottom of the board - this one's not trailing off anytime soon.
Its first Sunday/Monday decline was -34%; the second was -20%. A typical Sunday/Monday decline for a blockbuster is at least -50%, often a good deal more.
Granted, some of that was the effect of a holiday season release, while schools were on vacation. But mostly, it's a function of something we haven't seen with a wide release as long as I've been playing this game - there aren't enough screens to satisfy demand, even after three weeks. Or, to put that more precisely, there aren't enough IMAX or really good 3D screens (by which I mean not the projection technology alone, but big auditoriums with large screens and cutting-edge sound systems that are also fitted for 3D.) People are willing to wait for the chance to see this on the right screen - or willing to go back a second time to upgrade their initial experience, from 2D to 3D or from 3D to IMAX. So some of those IMAX screens are still selling out for weekday shows, which is astonishing.
The upshot is that I fully expect AVATR to turn in another eight-digit performance figure from Monday - probably around $11 million, perhaps even higher. The film is a phenomenon, and demand remains unsated.
