Here's an incomplete list of box office disappointments for commercial movies:
Dumbo - live action remake no one wanted
Maleficent 2 - sequel no one wanted
Godzilla 2 - sequel to a bad movie no one asked for
Alita - unknown IP
Men in Black 4 - reboot with new cast no one asked for
X-Men 6 - sequel with new cast that remade a plotline from another X-men movie, which everyone knew was bad
Terminator 6 - its been how long since a good Terminator movie?
Gemini Man - at least it was original
Dr Sleep - continuation of a 40 year old movie
Hellboy - was anyone crying out for this?
Shaft - or this?
Charlie's Angels 3 - or this?
Also, 2018's box office was pretty special. 3 movies with a domestic gross of over $600M, when there were zero in 2017 and 2016. 2019 looks less like a massove drop and more like reversion to the mena.
