In the BI interview, the Project Director says that talks for a Mass Effect series "never picked up again" after Wanda bought Legendary
Legendary Entertainment has the rights to Mass Effect for both film and screen, which I imagine would also include animated series. They've owned the rights since 2010. THS makes no mention of this whatsoever.
The project director talks about how there hasn't been any interest from Legendary in doing a series since the "leadership change", I'm assuming the 2016 purchase by Wanda.
Bonus: THS reports this animated series will be choose-your-own-path style like Banderstatch. In the BI interview, the Project Director is asked specifically about that posibility, and says regarding those Netflix interactive programs "It was cool as an experiment, but I don't know if that's the thing we should be taking away from games in terms of storytelling". Doesn't sound at all like an endorsement of a choose-your-own-path Mass Effect show.
