Since I'm not a gun owner and thus haven't received training that I assume comes with earning a permit, does anyone know how

much and what kind of training is necessary to get a conceal and carry permit? And do you need to renew the permit with continued training/refresher courses?

There's an ABC news segment that tries to show that having untrained citizens deal with stopping unexpected shooters isn't really a viable solution. The way they conducted the experiment is flawed and unscientific, but it does raise a few good points. Beyond military and security personnel who have training for such situations (and intense training at that), how easy is it for a regular citizen to overcome the fear response and the flight response to calmly draw their concealed weapon amid the chaos, find cover, and take down the assailant? Is there a reliable (and safe) way to simulate and train for such situations for citizens? Do citizens have to go through such training? Is it really (as they say in the report) a skill that one has to constantly drill and redrill, or else risk losing it after a month? Is that something that pro-gun people would be ok with having as a stipulation for owning a gun? That they have to go through this sort of rigorouse training?

Also, why do we need concealed carryment of guns? Why don't we have a law that says if you carry guns in public, you have to have them totally visible on the outside portion of your self so that all can see it?

specifically, the schools, the particular theater, and the shopping mall all banned firearms, including those with forlorne Dec 18, 11:56

I don't think it's very pragmatic to have loaded firearms in places where there are lots of children - like schools, or theatres. RogerMore Dec 18, 13:07
