Facts about wildland fires in Canada
- Canada has about 9% of the world’s forests. Each year over the last 25 years, about 7,466 forest fires have occurred. The total area burned varies widely from year to year, but averages about 2.5 million hectares annually.
- Only 3% of all wildland fires that start each year in Canada grow to more than 200 hectares in area. However, these fires account for 97% of the total area burned across the country.
- Fire suppression costs over the last decade in Canada have ranged from about $500 million to $1 billion a year.
A fire needs 3 things to happen. Heat, oxygen, & fuel. Remove one of the 3 and you have no fire.

Did you read the article suggesting removing dead trees as it is fuel for the forest fires? {nm}

Yes, same article said "logging probably would not have made a big difference in the high-altitude fire"

The words "probably" and "big" should tell you something. If you remove a fuel source, you prevent fire. {nm}

Again, forest fire is natural. I trust the scientist over the politician.

Yes, forest fires are natural, many times started by lighting. The fuel / dead trees are the subject of fire prevention here. {nm}
