Has anyone experienced or can explain this highway driving behavior?...
I make several supply runs for the business. We have one of those huge white vans. My usual stop is 1.5 hours each way. I take the highway, its two lanes each way. Set the cruise at 70 - the speed limit, and go.
As Im driving, I can see the traffic in my mirrors. I am in the right of the 2 lanes, which is where slower traffic is supposed to be. There will be a car I can see from miles back that is clearly gaining on me fast. Probably going like 80 - I have no problem with them speeding. BUT, what invariably happens is the car will stay in the right lane behind me, come up to within a couple car lengths, then SLOW DOWN to my speed. Instead of, you know, MAINTAINING their speed and sliding over to the left lane. Car will stay behind me .5 mile or more, even up to 2-3 miles, then go left and pass by.
Its not like they are trying to get off at the next exit - about 10 miles between exits on this stretch. And not much traffic to worry about. This isnt like once in a while, its 5-10 cars EVERY TIME EITHER WAY! This also happens when I'm driving regular car and other stretches as well. Its mind boggling to me. Is there any possible explanation? Something I'm missing? It cant be just me or in my head. (OK well it ~could~ be, but cmon :)
