I'm new to the game, and I have a question about how IPOs work. I've noticed that sometimes an IPO will say that it has, say, 2,000,000 shares offered at the IPO price. However, even though the volume of trading on that IPO goes far over 2,000,000, the number of shares available at the IPO price is still, like, 1,650,000, and it takes a lot more sold shares than 2,000,000 for the IPO to run out. Other times, it seems like the number of shares sold before the IPO runs out is more or less equal to the number advertised (though sometimes not exact.) Can someone explain this to me or point me in the direction of an explanation? Thanks in advance.
