how can it have more short than long but only move 1%?

Just because players buy or short any security, does not mean the movement price goes up or down every time...

If somebody buys 100k long at the same time somebody buys 100k short, it doesn't change, buying short changes stk less than long IME.

That would make sense, since you're technically "borrowing" it, selling it at market price and buying it back later for less.

I think that is how it's "virtually" done on HSx, IPO stocks remaining don't count shorted shares -good (IMO) explanation inside-

Also, HSX might have their own secret-sauce version of an uptick rule in place to keep the shorts from exerting too much downward pressure.

shorting a stock actually increases the supply, as you are selling stock that you dont own....but my question...

In real markets, shorting helps to stabilize the stock price.
