Shorting has been very kind to me. I love to root for the films to tank. what does that say about me? {nm}

in response to Facto's post True - and recent, too
Once again, *once* again, we saw how the HSX demographic, dominated by men, "geeks" (in the wider sense) and fan-boys, had to be assaulted

perhaps the movie directed by that guy from swingers.

Yo!

I agree it does happen quite a bit, though savvy traders can use that to their advantage. However, I was one who thought the same about TDK.

Yeah, that one. Lobo makes some excellent points, there, I believe.

actually, in this particular case, HSX is to blame. they IPO'ed SUPR8 @ 80 if I am not mistaken. traders just bid it up since IPO.

But the hsx system works in the end, doesn't it.... the Super8-expectation level was brought down to a point that I ( f.i. ) bought stock

I agree. I have every movie shorted but 3 until September. Most are overpriced IMHO.

We've had three movies make $200 million in the last six weeks.

...out of 54 this year. It's been a slow start.

Sure, it started out slow but that doesn't been it's been sucky lately... it has picked up in the summer, as it should.

its not 50-50 over/under as it had been in the past... thats for sure...

what's more surprising to me is the BB's fresh ratings....

I think this summer will be way better than last, but there are still many overpriced movie stocks on HSX for that timeframe.

this is the worst summer movie grouping of all-time (or at least that i can remember) absolutely horrid

seems to me it doesn't matter what HSX IPOs something at...traders still set the market and this one they set too high (at first)

I've lost so much on SUPR8 that, even though I'll get some back tomorrow, I'll still be over $1.5M in the red.

I had high hopes for this when it came out, but shorted it at 164 when it was obviously not getting the buzz that would require.

According to my charts, "hype and buzz" are even less accurate than RS. ;)

this is a fascinating subject. I wish I had kept a running tally of films over the years that were crazy high then ended up tanking hard...

i get more fired up by a speedracer or Narnia 2 than I do by a TDK or Inception

LOL...you have no faith in the modern box office film. certainly there are some long range gems you think will do well.

Maybe Transformers. Most knowledgeable traders know that HPot's have no legs. While would this one be different?

yeah I can agree on HPOT8. the only thing is that is the last film in the series so don't look for it to act exactly as the previous films.
