I can't imagine what PGIAM and ABALD were thinking.
I work with young singers at two colleges, and I find the... disinterest which the new trailer and the old trailer display in singing and music-making to be mystifying. Why make a musical which is not interested in music? What the trailer suggests to me is a "comedy of celebrity," and if the film is that, then the songs will just get in the way. I think in a fumbling contest with "John Carter," "John Carter" will get the better end.
