Exactly - many people don't like what they don't know. When I was a kid, I rarely saw non-white and never interacted with them, then as an
adult and move more into the suburbs (and now in the city) and a job where I finally interacted on a daily basis, you find out there are mostly just like you. Some are jerks, some are nice. Although I had experience of discrimination as a very short female. Try buying a new car in the 80's - all the salesman would ignore you.
