The extra time it took to watch was necessary to fully understand the context of the movie. Any shorter and it would have been one of those cases where they say the book was better than the movie because the editors left some footage on the cutting room floor. And the extra hour or so isn't cheap, it means theaters can do fewer showings in a day; thus hurting ticket sales. I appreciate this.
