So Who Saw What Last Week? (me - An Education:C+, Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li: D, Dragonball:Evolution: B-, Taking Woodstock: F-)

An Education: Initially, I thought this was pretty good, but upon thinking about it, it's not really much of a movie beyond the way cute and charming Carey Mulligan, and an overall good effort from the cast. (Except for you, Rosamund Pike; after this and Surrogates, you are clearly Razzie-worthy.) An older man/ younger girl fling may have been acceptable in the 60's, but it's a little creepy when you watch with modern sensibilities.

Street Fighter, Dragonball: Evolution: Here are two movies based on silly source material (one a videogame, the other an anime) with very different approaches. Street Fighter takes it's ridiculous characters and tries to put them in a real world crime drama. Which is not good because you can't take these characters motivations and histories seriously. Even worse, is how serious the filmmakers made this; apparently they thought they could make a Scorsese film out of this; it would be laughable if the film wasn't so boring.

Dragonball doesn't even try to rationalize it's silly source material (mystical orbs, immortal villians, etc.), and clearly everyone is having fun. Lead actor Justin Chatwin's performance may want to make you punch him, but I thought he got the joke and went with it. Some of the actors are truly awful, and the story is beyond ludicrous, but the film is breezy and fun, and makes for a decent "bad" movie.

Taking Woodstock: How did this ever get a wide release last year? Waaaaaaay too "Indie", too laid back, and too long (even at just 2 hours); there is also a jarring character turn halfway through the film where you're like "where did this come from?" that feels fake and annoying. This isn't a film, it's a old hippie recollectin' bout the good old days who just won't shut up. I now officially declare Ang Lee the worst director ever.
