Yes, I really liked it. I was a bit surprised myself because...
I'm not a big fan of this kind of British social-realist movies. I didn't like Shane Meadows' "This Is England". I was never lown away by ano of Mike Leigh's films (although Vera Drake and Naked had their moments). And Ken Loach's movies frequently infuriate me (Land and Freedom, Bread and Roses, Looking for Eric, even the much lauded The Wind that shakes the Barley really got my goat).
But this movie... well, it moved me. It was never indulgent, never overly sentimental and it never felt sorry for itself or its characters. And I thought it was wonderfully photographed (even though it was filmed in the now antiquated Academy Format 4:3).
But I can understand that some people might not like this movie at all, although it did get a generally good reception at the theatre I saw it in). Why didn't you like it, I'm curious? :-)
